Technical Product Manager – Enterprise Search (Platform Admin) (PL812)

  • Hybrid
    • Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Job description

Role Overview

A leading global consulting organisation is seeking a hands-on Technical Product Manager to own and administer an Enterprise Search platform. You'll work at the intersection of product strategy, technical operations, and business outcomes, partnering with Enterprise Architecture and engineering teams to define configurations, integration patterns, and platform governance.

This role combines product ownership with platform administration. You'll drive roadmap decisions based on user impact whilst managing technical configurations, security models, and integration patterns. Direct experience with enterprise search platforms is valuable; deep understanding of search principles, relevance optimisation, and platform administration is essential.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Analyse search performance metrics and user behaviour to identify improvement opportunities

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture on platform standards, governance frameworks, and integration patterns

  • Configure and administer search connectors, indexing schedules, query pipelines, and relevance tuning rules

  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand search-driven outcomes and translate these into roadmap priorities

  • Troubleshoot search quality issues, coordinate with vendor support, and drive resolution of platform incidents

  • Build dashboards and reporting that demonstrate platform health and business impact

  • Create documentation and enablement resources for technical and non-technical users

  • Work within cross-functional teams where your technical acumen bridges product vision and operational delivery

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Product Ownership & Strategy: Own the Enterprise Search product roadmap, aligning feature development and platform improvements with business outcomes, Enterprise Architecture standards, and stakeholder feedback

  • Backlog Prioritisation: Evaluate and prioritise backlog items based on measurable impact (findability, relevance, search success rate, user adoption, case deflection, productivity gains)

  • Performance Analytics: Track key search metrics including click-through rate, zero-results rate, search latency, query success rate, and user adoption; create visibility dashboards for stakeholders

  • Platform Administration: Administer search platform components including connectors, indexing schedules, schema design, facets, filters, query pipelines, and synonym management

  • Security & Identity: Implement security trimming and access control models, including SSO/IdP integration, role-based access control, and compliance with organisational security standards

  • Content Ingestion & Integration: Manage crawlers and API-based content ingestion; oversee multi-source deduplication, canonicalisation, and metadata governance

  • Environment Management: Maintain platform configurations across DEV, TEST, and PROD environments with formal change control, versioning, and rollback capabilities

  • Enterprise Architecture Collaboration: Work with EA teams to align platform decisions with reference architectures, integration patterns, data governance standards, and taxonomy frameworks

  • Integration Support: Maintain and enhance search integrations across web properties, intranets, CRM systems, knowledge bases, support portals, and productivity tools

  • Relevance Optimisation: Build and maintain relevance tuning strategies, A/B testing frameworks, and feedback loops to drive continuous search quality improvement

  • Vendor Management: Serve as primary point of contact with platform vendors, coordinating support requests, platform updates, issue escalation, and release planning

  • Enablement & Adoption: Create documentation, playbooks, and training materials for technical and non-technical users; facilitate demos and content onboarding guidelines

  • Compliance & Reliability: Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and accessibility standards; monitor platform health, coordinate incident response, and drive preventive measures

Job requirements

Required Skills

  • 5–8+ years in product management, platform administration, technical programme management, or solution delivery roles, ideally within Enterprise Search or closely related platforms

  • Strong foundational knowledge of enterprise search:

  • Indexing, crawlers, and connectors (SaaS applications, web, file shares, databases, CMS/DMS, CRM systems)

  • Schema design, metadata management, field configuration, and faceting strategies

  • Query processing pipelines, tokenisation, stemming, lemmatisation, and relevance ranking (BM25, TF-IDF concepts)

  • Security trimming and document-level permission models

  • Search UI/UX principles (autocomplete, spell-correction, suggestions, result templating)

  • Analytics and A/B testing methodologies (query success metrics, abandonment analysis, user behaviour)

  • Proficiency in translating technical platform configurations into clear business outcomes and stakeholder communications

  • Experience managing enterprise SaaS platforms, including environment configuration, change governance, and vendor coordination

  • Familiarity with data governance, taxonomy development, metadata standards, and privacy/compliance requirements

  • Comfort with product management tools (Jira, Azure DevOps), documentation platforms (Confluence, SharePoint), and analytics dashboards

  • Ability to engage meaningfully with Enterprise Architecture, engineering teams, and technical stakeholders on APIs, SDKs, performance, caching, and resilience topics

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience demonstrating equivalent expertise

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on administration experience with Coveo (sources, pipelines, rules, relevance tuning, SDK/UI components)

  • Experience with alternative search platforms (Elasticsearch, Solr, OpenSearch, or similar Lucene-based systems)

  • Familiarity with emerging patterns such as LLM-assisted search, query rewriting, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) within governance constraints

  • Light scripting capability (PowerShell, Python) or familiarity with CI/CD practices for configuration promotion

  • Background in knowledge management, content operations, or customer support/search optimisation use cases

  • Experience designing and implementing multi-lingual or accessibility-focused search solutions

  • Demonstrated success in platform adoption and change management initiatives

Duration: 6-month contract with possibility of extension
