Job description
Our public sector client is seeking an experienced FHIR Specialist to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of healthcare data interoperability solutions. The successful candidate will bring deep hands-on experience with HL7 FHIR standards and work closely with clinical, technical, and business stakeholders to enable secure and scalable health information exchange.
This role plays a critical part in modernizing health systems and ensuring data is accessible, standardized, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain FHIR-based APIs and interoperability solutions
Translate business and clinical requirements into FHIR resources, profiles, and extensions
Support integration between EMRs/EHRs, public health systems, and third-party applications
Develop and maintain FHIR Implementation Guides (IGs)
Perform data mapping and transformation from legacy standards (HL7 v2, CDA, custom schemas) to FHIR
Ensure solutions meet privacy, security, and compliance requirements (PHIPA / HIPAA, as applicable)
Collaborate with architects, developers, clinicians, and policy teams
Provide technical guidance and mentorship on FHIR best practices
Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of interoperability workflows
Contribute to documentation and knowledge transfer activities
Job requirements
5+ years of experience working with healthcare interoperability standards
Strong hands-on experience with HL7 FHIR (R4 preferred)
Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs using FHIR
Solid understanding of healthcare data models and workflows
Experience with FHIR profiling, extensions, and value sets
Familiarity with HL7 v2, CDA, or other healthcare messaging standards
Experience working in public sector or regulated healthcare environments
Strong communication skills and ability to work with non-technical stakeholders

API testing tools (Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI)
Integration engines (e.g., Mirth, Rhapsody – nice to have)
Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP – nice to have)
